Once again, dazzling movements and daring stunts electrified the jampacked Louisian crowd as the dance fest fired up at the Burgos gym on January 24, 2008. An equally competitive set of dancers battled through an afternoon-long showdown, eventually ending with the colleges bagging equal shares of gold and silver.
The College of Engineering and Architecture, combining Mt. Province’s ‘tallibeng’, ‘turayan’, and ‘pinanyuan’ dances, bested the folk dance competition with their earth-shaking stomps and thunderous gong beats. They dumped the College of Education (Benguet Bendian dance) and the College of Human Sciences (Ifugao dance) into second and third places, respectively, engaging the start of deafening cheers from the flaring audience. As if the excitement was not enough, the College of Information and Computing Sciences performed a jaw-dropping spectacle, instantly putting their selves on the Pop dance’s top rank. The College of Nursing trailed close behind in second place, daring to outperform CICS with a song number in the beginning and end of their dance but they still fell short. CEA, on the other hand, barely came close despite their colorful costumes. Their orange capes and brown dyed hair failed to pump them into the higher ranks. However, the excitement was cut short when CHS’ audio background suffered technical difficulties. What was first thought of as an audio-edited effect turned out to be an error on the audio system. The CHS dancers discontinued their first dance when the judges announced: “We would like them to repeat their performance; we want to give them a second chance.” Despite performing their dance twice, CHS still failed to sack a place in the pop dance top three. However, they retaliated with an eye-popping modern interpretative dance instantly winning them the gold. They blasted the College of Natural Sciences out into second place after a lively showdown despite CNS’ attempt to convert the gym’s dance floor into a “happy carnival.” Again, CEA did not fail to tail close, winning third place. Just when the College of Accountancy and Commerce was losing ground in the medal-mining, their ballroom dancers (student category) tossed them into first place after an astounding professional-level performance. Two CEA pairs were plunged into second and third ranks when the CAC pair began to flash their stunning moves. Lightning-fast turns and complex routines amazed the audience leaving CAC’s opponents silent. But, CHS still had something up their sleeves, their dancers from the faculty category struck back at CAC. With deafening cheers from the audience, their ballroom dancers took the gold easily.
