Bakakeng SLU Campus’ construction has finally been started with a new road being excavatedwhich will serve as the main road for public utility vehicles in lieu of the old road which is part of the property that SLU bought. Its excavation started last November 17, 2007 and is expected to be finished this April 2008 through Great Zone Enterprises, sub-contractor for the road construction.
The said road will yield a two or three way lane highway including a sidewalk and plat boxes with length of 270 meters and a width of 8 meters. According to Engr. Bonnie Dioso, project supervisor, when asked if the road will be finished in time with twelve persons working eleven hours (7am-6pm) a day, “Oo, matatapos yun kasi may mga heavy equipment naman kaming gamit”.
Furthermore, he added that the things that they have to do are all mandated to them from their main office which was part of the contract between SLU and Great Zone Enterprises. He also added that those pine trees being cut down are kept by SLU to be used in furnishing the Arts Building which is one of the proposed buildings to be built in addition to the Nursing Building.
In addition when asked if there are probabilities that the land bought by SLU is a “sinking land”, he said that “it is not a sinking land because the project engineer and the surveyor who came from SLU conducted researches regarding the nature of the land and showed that this(Bakakeng Campus land) is not a sinking land.”
