Two Louisians bested the longawaited Ikebana Flower Arrangement Competition as part of the Japanese Culture Day at SM-Baguio on February 10. Marckon Lewis Gajete, a Hospitality and Tourism Management student, took home the gold despite joining such a competition for the first time. “I had experience in high school but I never joined a flower arrangement competition before,” he said. On the other hand, Constance Florentin, a culinary teacher in SLU, won second place in the professional category. She was the only female in the competing group. “Out of more than 30 professional participants, I won considering that many were professional florists and owners of flower shops.” The Japanese Association in Northern Luzon, Inc. conducted the said competition, awarding both Gajete and Florentin with cash prizes and trophies.
