Contrary to the stated fact, there are a lot of flaws I have seen being in this university for four long years—four long years of dealing with the offices, four long years of torture. There are a lot of students who are passionate in making their college life an exciting one through joining student organizations. Yet, there is a lack of support from the administration when it comes to such affairs. Call me bitter, I don’t care but this would be a very good example: the White & Blue staff who won during the Regional Press Conference were not able to attend the Luzonwide Press Conference in Tuguegarao City. Though the papers were approved, it was with a condition. It would be ‘attend at your own risk’. The staff would not be excused from their classes and examinations if they would join the press conference. Nonetheless, the White & Blue entries still won. Now what’s the point: even if such activities would be of great importance to any student organizations/body, if the Admin says no, it would be no…but, take note, when a student brings so much glory to SLU, here comes the Admin so proud of it. With these, may I then request ‘more support’ from the Administration when it comes to the student affairs (though I can’t say anything especially the support of Sir Macalma and Sir Gil). I would like to point it to the higher positions in the university. Furthermore, I would like to state the fact that there are a lot of “red tapes” when it comes to the processing of papers. Such red tapes can make the activities hanging—a long process just to get the sweet ‘yes’ of the “general”. Another example? My friend Zwiesel had submitted all papers for the Lambakan which will be held on March 29-31. That was last January. She has been doing neverending follow-ups for the papers but the ‘office’ turns her every day sour. It was only last March 5 when the “general” gave the approval. And he is expecting that there will
‘Cogito ergo sum’ be a lot of participants for the said event…? Now tell me, with only three weeks left, do you think Zwiesel can invite a lot of participants Luzon wide? That was the main reason why she gave all the papers the earliest time possible (if only it would rest on the table for more than a month). A pity on my friend who is rushing to send all invitations for the different schools. If these happened to the publication, what more for the other student organizations. But still, we survived. We remain. How about the students? A lot of things are happening not only in the university but also in our ‘society’. There are many social issues which can greatly affect the future not only of the people but also our country. Trying to look into the participation of the students in such social issues, it would be a ‘ground zero’. Not even a 2.5 percent reactions from them can be gathered…yet, active youth organizations still are hoping for their (at most) 5 percent (sana mag-level up naman) participation to give a stand on social issues. My friend Leslie always tells me that whatever happens to the society, the youth would be greatly affected. “Look, the youth must give a stand on social issues especially on policy-making because it would determine their future especially when it comes to employment,” she said. I just hope that there will come a time that the students/youth would be so active. (Ika nga ni Bestfriend, ‘The youth are the hope of the fatherland’) Life is not just a matter of books, computers, make-ups, nice clothes, etc…it is a matter of being concern not only with yourself but also to the others and the world. ****** You were my world when you’re still mine And you became my hell at the end of the line. -Klein
